19th seed Samantha Stosur takes out the 9th seed Dominika Cibulkova

Tennis: 19th seed Samantha Stosur ousted 9th seed and this year's Australian Open Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to reach the pre-quarterfinals of the 2014 French Open. 2010 French Open finalist and 2011 US Open champion Samantha Stosur had a perfect record against Cibulkova and had beaten the Slovakian in all four previous meetings, without dropping a single set.

They had also met in the Quarterfinals of 2012 French Open, which Stosur had won 6-4, 6-1. Apart from reaching Quarterfinals in 2012, Cibulkova had also reached semifinals here in 2009, but Stosur was not ready to end her winning streak against her.

Both players broke eachother in the first set, but Australian broke Cibulkova twice to take the first set 6-4 in 46 minutes. In the second set, Cibulkova had two break point opportunities, but she was not able to convert any of them, but Stosur capitalised on one of the five break points she had, to take the set 6-4 and moved into the 4th round.

For a place in the Quarterfinals, Stosur will face the winner of 2012 French Open champion Maria Sharapova or Argentina's Paula Ormaechea.
