Tennis - Spain has been waiting for a Grand Slam champion in the women's side for a long time. The last Spaniard to win a women's Grand Slam singles title was Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario at the 1998 French Open. Now with the rise of Garbine Muguruza, Spanish fans are hoping that drought will end.
But before Muguruza fulfills her Grand Slam potential, the 20-year-old could switch nationalities and play for Venezuela. Muguruza's mother hails from Venezuela while her father is from Spain. While she has played for Spain so far, she has indicated that she might switch allegiance to the Venezuelan flag.
Muguruza has said that she will make a decision by the end of the year. Muguruza went down in three sets to Maria Sharapova in Paris on Tuesday.
