World No.2 Simona Halep races into the US Open 3rd round

Tennis: World No.2 Simona Halep needed only 56 minutes to book her spot in the US Open 3rd round as she brushed aside Jana Cepelova in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. The Romanian has reached atleast the Quarterfinals at all three Grand Slams this year and she is vying to reach 4th Grand Slam Quarterfinals.

Halep had reached Quarterfinals at the Australian Open, final at the French Open and semifinals at Wimbledon. World No.65 Cepelova went off to a good start as she broke Halep in the second game to go 2-0 up. But then Halep changed the gears and won 6 games in a row to take the first set 6-2 in just 29 minutes.

There were 8 winners, 9 unforced errors from Halep and 6 winners, 14 unforced errors from Cepelova in the first set. In the second set, Halep broke Cepelova in the third game to go 2-1 and then everything went the Romanian's way, as she broke Cepelova at 1-5, when the Slovakian's backhand went long and the second set was won 6-1 by Halep. Halep hit 16 winners, 11 unforced errors whereas Cepelova hit 9 winners, 26 unforced errors in the match.
