Radwanska sets up Lepchenko Rematch in Seoul

Tennis – Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska was in superb nick here at the KIA Korea Open in Seoul today as she dismantled South Africa’s Chanelle Scheepers to set up a quarterfinal reunion with Varvara Lepchenko.

Radwanska, who comes into the event as the top seed and the overwhelming favourite, has a reputation of coming unstuck when up against players who have powerful ground-strokes and that is exactly what had happened when the two met each other at the same event last year.

The Pole, 25, hasn’t quite been in the best of form this year and has just won one title all through 2014. For a player ranked as high as fifth place in the world, the record is nothing short of dismal. As the season enters its final leg, Radwanska seems to be finding form – something which was reflected in her top performance against Scheepers who she defeated 6-0,6-0 in just 49 minutes.

The 25 year-old, who reached the final of Wimbledon back in 2012, dropped a total of 24 points in the match. In other news, second seed Karolina Pliskova was put through a stern examination in her second round match against Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany, but found a route through in three tight sets, winning 6-4,6-7(7),6-2 in just over two hours.
