Tennis: The former world No.1, Carlos Moya, who had become first Spaniard to be ranked on top of the world in 1999, has decided to step down as the captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. The 1998 French Open champion and 1997 Australian Open finalist, saw Spain getting demoted from the World Group for the first time since 1996, under his captaincy.
Spain were beaten 3-1 in the World Group Playoffs by Brazil. Moya told that he was signed for one year (2014) and he has decided not to renew the contract for the year 2015. He still does not know what federation has decided for him but Moya has made the decision in his own head.
The 5-time Davis Cup champions (2000, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011) Spanish team were without their top two players Rafael Nadal (World No.2) and Davis Ferrer (World No.5). Their team against Brazil comprised of Spain No.3 Roberto Bautista Agut (World No.15) and Spain No.9 Pablo Andujar (World No.44).
