Stosur, Vandeweghe and Davis through to the second round in Osaka

Tennis: All seeded players, Samantha Stosur, Coco Vandeweghe, Zarina Diyas and Lauren Davis moved into the second round of the Japan Women's Open WTA tournament in Osaka. Defending champion and top seed Stosur played local player Misa Eguchi.

The 2011 US Open champion, Stosur broke World No.127 Eguchi got first break of the match in 10th game to take the first set 6-4. The Japanese started the second set by breaking the Australian in the first game. She led 4-3 but then Stosur broke her in the 8th game, which had 5 deuces.

Stosur broke Eguchi at 5-6 to win the second 7-5 and completed the win in 1 hour and 31 minutes. 20-year-old Lauren Davis went through to the second round after winning an epic thriller against the Japanese wildcard Hiroko Kuwata.

Davis had to save a match point in the third set as she won 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Another American who went through to the second round was Coco Vandeweghe, who secured a straight sets 6-2, 6-3 win over Kristina Mladenovic.
