Pliskova, Giorgi and Knapp reach semifinals in Linz

Tennis: Highest ranked player left in the draw, Karolina Pliskova is through to the semifinals of the Generali Ladies Linz WTA Tennis tournament, after getting past Madison Brengle in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. After withdrawal of top seed Eugenie Bouchard, second seed Ana Ivanovic and losses of third seed Dominika Cibulkova, fourth seed Andrea Petkovic and fifth seed Sabiine Lisicki, Pliskova (7th seed) is the only seeded player left in the tournament.

World No.42 Camila Giorgi also booked her place in the last 4 after beating New Zealand's Marina Erakovic in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. The Italian in second highest ranked player left in the draw. Giorgi will face her compatriot Karin Knapp in the semifinals, who won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 against Tsvetana Pironkova.

Pliskova will face Anna-Lena Friedsam. German qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam reached her career's first ever WTA semifinals with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Stefanie Voegele.
