Tennis: Two former world No.1 players Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams have booked their places in the Quarterfinals of the ASB Classic WTA Tournament in Auckland. The top seed, Wozniacki easily won the first set 6-1 against the American teenager Taylor Townsend, but was made to work hard in the second set, which she won in tie-break to go through.
She will face Julia Goerges next, who won 6-3, 7-5 against Lucie Hredecka. 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams brushed aside her Japanese opponent Kurumi Nara in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. She will face Elena Vesnina next who won 6-3, 6-1 against the 17-year-old Ana Konjuh.
Fourth seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova also made her way into the last 8, after beating New Zealand's Marina Erakovic 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. She will face the seventh seed Coco Vandeweghe who edged Kirsten Flipkens in 3 sets 6-1, 6-7, 7-5.
