Tennis - Former teen prodigy Nicole Vaidisova was beaten in the semi-finals of the Dow Corning Classic in Midland, an ITF $100K event on Saturday. The 25-year-old Vaidisova returned to the game after a four-and-a-half year hiatus and reached her first semi-final at this event.
But her run, which included three wins in qualifying and three in the main draw, ended at the hands of German Tatjana Maria, who won 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the final. Maria will meet 18-year-old American Louisa Chirico, who defeated Czech Katerina Vankova 6-2, 6-1 in the other semi-final.
The American teen is currently ranked No. 182 in the world, a career-high will go higher next week. The doubles final will also take place on Sunday between Jacqueline Cako / Sachia Vickery and Julie Coin / Emily Webley-Smith.
