Sara Errani Advances at Rio Open but Roberta Vinci Exits

Tennis - Italy's Sara Errani is through to the quarter finals of the Rio Open after scoring a 6-0, 7-5 win over Lourdes Domínguez Lino. The Italian, currently the top ranked doubles player in the world, will next meet local favourite Beatriz Haddad Maia, who upset the seventh seeded Polona Hercog 6-1, 6-2 also on Thursday.

Maia is also through to the semi-finals of the doubles event in Rio. Errani's doubles partner Roberta Vinci was not able to advance to the last eight - as she was beaten by qualifier Veronica Cepede Royg 2-6, 3-6. Royg will next meet sixth seeded Anna Schmiedlova, who beat Paula Ormaechea, 6-0, 6-2.

Schmiedlova and Cepede Royg will be playing their first ever quarter-finals on the WTA Tour. Doubles - Quarterfinals
