Tennis: Former World No.1 and 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has showed that she has still got some tricks in her mid 30s as she came back from one set down to deny Casey Dellacqua at the Qatar Total Open in Doha.
Just like Venus jokingly called herself at the Australian Open after beating Camila Giorgi, age seems to be just a number for both the Williams sisters. The seventh seed had won both of her previous meetings against her first round opponent but this time she did not have a good start to the match and got only 45% first serves in, won only 29% points on her second serve in the first set.
One break was enough to give the first set 6-3 to Dellacqua, but then Williams turned on the come back mode and saved all three break points she faced in the second set. She broke Dellacqua twice to take the second set 6-2. She was even more dominant in the third set and completely outplayed the 30-year-old Australia.
Williams dropped only 2 points on serve in the third set and broke Dellacqua three times to take the third set 6-1 and went through after 1 hour and 34 minutes. Another former world No.1 and 2-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka shocked and surprised everybody with her performance, as she outclassed the eighth seed Angelique Kerber in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
The Belarusian wildcard needed only 66 minutes to dispatch the German. Also Read: Roger Federer sorry for upsetting people by holding Indian Cricket team shirt Also Read: WTA Doha Main Draw: Kerber vs. Azarenka in the First Round!
