Martina Hingis’ decision to change her doubles partners has come as a surprise, after her recent statements in which she expressed her desire to win the WTA finals with Flavia Pennetta. She had said of her partnership with Pennetta, "Flavia and I, we aim to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore.
We are a good doubles team, and last year, despite playing together for only a few tournaments, we couldn’t qualify by only a few points. This season, we aim to achieve this goal. With Flavia, I am really very good, we have a good feeling, both on and off the court, to build a winning doubles team." The Swiss announced that she will play the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments with the Indian Sania Mirza.
The Italian, according to the rumours, will play with another doubles’ specialist and Mirza’s former partner, Su Wei Hsieh.
