Simona Halep suffers a personal loss, may withdraw from Indian Wells

World no.3 Simona Halep has had a personal bereavement right before the start of the BNP Paribas Open. Halep’s cousin, her mother’s sister’s son, was found dead in his home in the Romanian province of Constanta on Monday afternoon, local time.

According to police reports, the 29-year old, Nicia Arghir, hung himself in the office at his home. No foul play has been suspected, though further details for the cause of the suicide are yet to be received. As regards Halep’s participation at Indian Wells, it is still unclear whether the Romanian has withdrawn from the Masters.
