Simona Halep had never beaten Flavia Pennetta in their previous 3 meetings when she only managed to win 1 set out of 7. But considering the great form she has displayed so far in 2015, it`s no surprise that the Romanian finally prevailed over the Italian in the 4th Round of the Miami Open.
Halep won 6-3, 7-5 qualifying for the Quarterfinals where she will face American Sloane Stephens who battled through Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic. The first set was decided in Halep`s favor by one break only in the 6th game.
Halep and Pennetta only combined for 8 winners, 4 each, and for 37 unforced errors, 16 for the former and 21 for the latter, in the first 9 games. Pennetta held in the opening game of the second set before a sequence of 5 consecutive breaks. Finally Flavia defended her serve again moving to a 5-2 lead.
