Simona Halep continued her impressive run in the Miami Open going by defeating Sloane Stephens in straight sets to set up a semi-final matchup with World No 1, Serena Williams.
The Romanian seized on an unforced error to earn a break early in the first set and made no mistakes in closing out the set at 6-1. The second set looked to follow in on the same pattern as Halep broke early in the second set as well before taking a 3-0 and looked to be comfortably on her way to book a place in the semi-final.
However, Stephens did manage to cope up a response, going on a roll, winning 4 consecutive games to the delight of the capacity crowd present at Stadium Court, Key Biscayne. But unfortunately, the American was broken again in the 11th game by Halep, who went on to close the match on serve and lined up a last four match up with Serena Williams.
