A new event is added to the WTA calendar 2016. This is St. Petersburg, which will be played for at least 5 years in a row in February, the same week of the Dubai tournament. Most probably the tournament will replace the one in Rio de Janeiro, and it will therefore be an International tournament.
At the moment there is no official news on the surface, which should be indoor hard courts. To make the announcement, after several rumors, was Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Good news for Russian tennis, which last year was in danger of being without a single major tournament circuit since the ATP 250 in St.
Petersburg had to be moved to Tel Aviv. ALSO READ
