Simona Halep is through to her first ever US Open semi-final after an extraordinary performance which allowed her to beat in three sets Victoria Azarenka. Simona won't be left with too much time to cheer the win however.
The Romanian will have to be back on court on Thursday, just one day after reaching the feat, to face Italian Flavia Pennetta. Simona will obviously be the favorite to beat the 33-year-old, who however leads the Head-2-Head by 3 victories to 1.
Flavia and Simona played in Miami this year, and the Romanian won in straight sets after a great and solid performance. That is probably what Simona will need tomorrow night to make sure she can reach her first US Open final and second Grand Slam final in her career after the one she lost at the French Open to Maria Sharapova in 2014.
Simona was very pleased with the win over Azarenka. "We played amazing, both of us I think. I am happy that I won this amazing match. I knew it was going to be tough, because Vika played fantastic, she is very strong and she doesn't give up in the match.
The rain delay was perfect for me (smiling). It was unbelievable that I was given a second chance. I told my coach in the locker room that I have another chance and so that I had to go back on court and do everything I did on the first set.
Because it was made for me, the rain." told Simona to the media in Interview Room Number One at Flushing Meadows. The Romanian then talked about her next opponent. IN THE NEXT PAGE SIMONA TALKS ABOUT FLAVIA PENNETTA ----->
