Three players withdrew from WTA Istanbul because of security reasons! Slovenia will not play Fed Cup in Cairo

Skipping a tournament or a competition because of security problems in 2016? Yes, it happens. According to local newspaper Hurriyet, Camila Giorgi, Lucie Hradecka and Irina Falconi have withdrawn from WTA Istanbul set to begin in April because of the reason just mentioned.

Despite still being in the entry list, they would have given as reason of the withdrawal a 'dangerous situation in the Country' that holds the tournament. This year Istanbul saw two terrorist attacks by Isis towards some tourists.

In the first attack 12 Germans died and in the second, happened last Saturday, three Israelians and a person from Iraq lost their lives. In the capital Ankara there were some terrorist attacks between February and March. However, stars in Istanbul will not lack as Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova will be participating to the tournament.

As for Fed Cup the situation is not better. Slovenia announced ITF that it will not play Group II tie in less than one month in Cairo, Egypt, due to the possible terrorist attacks. 'Slovenian players are worried for their security and because of this reason we decided to cancel the commitment' - the Foreign Minister siad.

Instead, Denmark of Caroline Wozniacki should be there. The World No. 21 needs another appearance in Fed Cup to be eligible to play Olympic Games. However, Danish Foreign Minister affirmed that Caroline's presence in Rio will not depend on her presence or not in Egypt, just because of the possible terrorist attacks: 'Security comes first than everything.' One month ago Caroline Wozniacki described herself 'nervous' because of the situation. ALSO READ: Maria Sharapova: Between Doubt And Truth
