WTA HONG KONG and TIANJIN: Kerber wins rain-delayed match, Radwanska withdraws

After rain affected play on Wednesday in Hong Kong, it was business as usual on Thursday with matches picking up from where they'd been left off. In Tianjin, it was a different story as top-seed Agnieszka Radwanska first won her pre-quarter-final then withdrew from the tournament.

Here's a quick recap of the day's play in the two tournament venues: Hong Kong World no. 1 and top-seed Angelique Kerber will play eighth seed Daria Gavrilova in the quarter-final. Kerber, whose match against American Louisa Chirico was interrupted on Wednesday, wrapped up the win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

The Australian defeated Katerina Siniakova in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to move ahead in the draw. Bethanie Mattek-Sands will face another Frenchwoman the doubles partner of her second round opponent Caroline Garcia, in the quarter-final.

Mattek-Sands upset the sixth seeded Garcia 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and will next meet Kristina Mladenovic, who defeated Nao Hibino in straight sets 7-6, 6-2. Fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki will face Qiang Wang in the quarter-final. Wang had moved into the quarter-final on Wednesday after Johanna Konta had pulled out of their second round match with an abdominal injury.

The fifth seeded Dane meanwhile defeated Konta's fellow Briton Heather Watson 6-3, 6-3. In the last quarter, seventh seeded Jelena Jankovic will play Alize Cornet in the quarters. The seventh seeded Serb, who'd completed her second round on Wednesday had defeated fellow Serb Aleksandra Krunic.

Cornet meanwhile upset second seed Venus Williams 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to advance further. IN THE NEXT PAGE: WTA TIANJIN RESULTS Also Read Novak Djokovic talks about being coached by Boris Becker in 2017
