The playing field at the women’s tournament in Auckland has only gotten better as former World No 1, Caroline Woznacki has also been confirmed for the ASB Classic. Another addition to the lineup for the tournament is another former World No 1, Ana Ivanovic. The tournaments lineup now comprises of four former World No 1 which is an achievement for the recognition of the tournament itself and tournament director, Karl Budge could not be any happier.
The two other former World No 1’s are Serena Williams and Venus Williams. "This is unchartered territory for a sporting event in New Zealand. Any one of these four players could headline the tournament on their own," Budge said. The amount of trophies and titles between these women is an astounding number.
Both the Williams sisters have collected 120 WTA Titles, 29 singles Grand Slams, 18 doubles Grand Slams. Ivanovic has collected 15 WTA titles in her career and has 1 Grand Slam title to her name. She is a former champion of the ASB Classic as she won the 2014 edition.
Last year’s semifinalist Wozniacki will be making a return back to the tour following a foot injury that forced her to end her season early in October. Also Read: Magnus Norman: 'It's frustrating to see Wawrinka being inconsistent'
