WTA Stuttgart - Jankovic, Stosur lead winners on Tuesday

Australia's Sam Stosur and Jelena Jankovic won thier first round matches at the Prosche Grand Prix on Tuesday. Stosur has struggled for most of this year and is hoping a comeback to her favourite surface clay may bring a change in her fortunes although she would be under pressure of defending a huge number of ranking points over the next couple of months.

The Aussie beat Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 7-5, 6-1. Jankovic, fresh off a thrilling Fed Cup win over Slovakia on the weekend, beat lucky loser Beatriz García Vidagany in straight sets. Her scheduled first round opponent Petra Kvitova withdrew on Monday.

There were also wins on Tuesday for Agniezska Radawanska, Anastasia Pavyulenchkova and Germans Sabine Lisicki and Julia Georges. At the Morroco WTA event, top seed Aravane Rezai needed three sets to beat Arantxa Rus while former world no.
