The World No. 2 Garbine Muguruza is the main star confirmed for WTA Monterrey that will take place from 2 to 8 April 2018 on outdoor hard-courts. The Spaniard already played the Mexican event in 2014, when she lost to the Croatian Donna Vekic in the first round. But now expectations are different. 'I am excited to be back in Monterrey to celebrate the tenth edition of the tournament', said Muguruza through a video message.
Muguruza, born in Venezuela, became World No. 1 for the first time ever in September 11 after US Open, where she reached quarter-finals. Also another Spaniard ace, Rafael Nadal, will play in Mexico, but in Acapulco from 26 February to 3 March. Muguruza, who won Wimbledon and Cincinnati titles this year, will kick-off 2018 season in Brisbane in preparation for Australian Open.
