WTA Stanford moves to San Josè through a new title sponsor

Don't call it "Bank West Tennis Classic" anymore. The WTA Premier Stanford is moving to San Josè State University with a new title sponsor, Mubadala, starting in 2018. It will take place from July 30 to August 5 and is renamed as Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic. The event will still be played in the California Bay Area, which was the initial goal.

Mubadala has been a famous brand in tennis, as it is the sponsor also of the Abu Dhabi exhibition and Rio Open. The new venue is a 15-acre complex where there are six illuminated outside courts, and soon a 4,000-seat Centre Court.

Also, six indoor courts should be built. WME and IMG Co-President Mark Shapiro was quoted saying: 'IMG has a long-standing global relationship with Mubadala and we’re looking forward to leveraging their expertise in technology and innovation to raise the entertainment value at this event for our fans.

Mubadala’s commitment to the growth of tennis is inspiring and makes the company an ideal partner.' ALSO READ: Luthi says he was worried about Roger Federer losing Australian Open final
