Tennis - Former World No. 5 Anna Chakvetadze has given birth to a baby girl, the Russian announced on her Twitter account yesterday. The 31-year-old Russian won eight WTA singles titles during her career and reached the semi-finals of the 2007 US Open singles event.
That same year, she also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and French Open. Chakvetadze, who began playing tennis at the age of 8, retired from the sport in 2013 due to a back injury. The Russian player married a Swiss investment banker with Ukrainian citizenship in 2014.
Chakvetadze posted a tweet, saying 'Welcome little baby girl! We love you!'. The Russian recently posted a picture of herself with a baby bump in August also on her Twitter account. She has been working with Eurosport in recent years as a commentator and has also been working on her own tennis academy in Spain, where she is training young children in the sport.
The academy opened in September 2015 and children from 4 to 16 years old are currently learning the sport there.
