Estonia's Kaia Kanepi could likely miss the Australian Open in January as she tries to comeback from heel surgery. The world no. 19 Estonian underwent heel surgery in October and has only just resumed light training. “I will be able to play tennis at full strength in January,” Kanepi told Estonian television, but she also said she could miss the first grand slam of the year which begins on January 14th.
Kanepi may also not be able to win the Brisbane title she won in Janaury earlier this year. Kanepi peaked at no. 15 in the rankings in August and won her third WTA title in Estoril in May.
