WTA - Yaroslava Shvedova wins Comeback Player of the Year

Kazkah tennis star Yaroslava Shvedova was voted WTA Comeback Player of the Year for 2012. The Kazakh ended the year ranked no. 29 in the world having been ranked outside the top 200 in January. Shvedova suffered a knee injury which kept her off the courts for a major part of the 2011 season.

Her season was highlighted by a quarter final finish at the French Open where she beatd efending champion Li Na. She also reached the 4th round at Wimbledon. Shvedova commented. “I was surprised when I heard the news.

It's a victory for my team. But I'm not done yet! I'm going to keep working hard and my goal is to be in the Top 20 in singles, and it would be nice to be back in the Top 10 in doubles, too." Previous winners of the award include - 2003 Amélie Mauresmo
