St. Petersburg Tournament Director Hoping to Get Maria Sharapova on Board

Alexander Medvedev, the Tournament Director of the St. Petersburg Ladies event, says he is confident that the 2020 edition of the tournament will be even better. According to GoTennis, Medevdev says, “Last year, our tournament was marked as the best in its category.

Therefore, we are preparing even harder and are confident that the upcoming tournament will be even better. Already, it is clear that there will be a very strong roster of participants." The tournament has attracted a strong field for the 2020 edition, which will take place from February 10 to February 16th.

World No. 7 Petra Kvitova, World No. 9 Kiki Bertens, World No. 19 Donna Vekic, World No. 16 Marketa Vondrousova, France's Kristina Mladenovic, Kazakh Yulia Putintseva and Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic have confirmed that they are taking part in the tournament.

The Tournament Director was also asked about the possibility of Russian Maria Sharapova, the former World No. 1 and five-time Grand Slam champion, playing in the tournament and he said that they were in talks with the Russian in order to play in St Petersburg.

"We are in the process, We hope that we will make a pleasant surprise for the fans." The tournament is played on indoor hardcourts and the event is classified as a WTA Premier tournament. The tournament was first held in St.

Petersburg in 2003. The tournament was voted Best WTA Tournament of the Year Award in its category. The winners receive recognition from WTA players due to excellence of their staff and organization, passionate fans, and wider dedication to the sport and its athletes.
