Russian Maria Kirilenko is close to breaking into the worlds top 10 in singles for the first time in her career. And the Russian has decided to give up on her doubes aspirations for the time being and focus completely on singles.
Kirilenko has won 12 career doubles titles, including the 2012 WTA Championships with Nadia Petrova. She has been playing with American Lisa Raymond in 2013 but the pair lost early in both their events this year. Kirilenko commented, "I actually stopped playing doubles and decided to concentrate on my singles.
I think it was a logical decision because I feel that I am playing well in singles and if you play doubles, you lose so much energy so I want to focus all my efforts on trying to improve my singles game.” Raymond will now play with former Samantha Stosur for the next couple of months. The pair have won two grand slam titles as a team earlier.
