Germany's Tatjana Maria has announced that she is pregnant with her second child and intends to return to the tour after giving birth. The 93rd ranked Maria already has one daughter, Charlotte and posted a video on social media through the WTA Tour website.
The German says she is maintaining self isolation at home and keeping busy with her daughter's studies and teaching her how to play tennis. In the video, she adds, "In Monterrey we decided to take a break from tournaments and to stay home with my family - because Charlotte, she will get a little brother or a little sister.
We are super-excited. It's just a break, I will come back on tour - I'm still practising to come back stronger than before. I hope everybody's healthy and staying at home, and I wish you all the best." The German has achieved some of her best results after giving birth to her first child - including reaching the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon in 2015 and peaking at No.46 in the world rankings in November 2017.
Maria has won one singles title and four doubles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as 15 singles and 15 doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit. She has also made 10 appearances (16 matches) for Germany in Fed Cup competition between 2006 and 2011 and in 2018.
She married her coach, the French former tennis player Charles-Edouard Maria in April 2013. Their first child was born in December 2013. Here is a look at her video.
