In Melbourne, Sara played in the quarterfinals in 2012. In this edition of the Australian. Open, Venus Williams kicked off her tournament with a victory over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.

Taking the court against Errani already in pain and with her left knee bandaged, Venus was the victim of a new injury during the game, from which she was defeated with a very clear score of 6-1 6-0. Sara won the match thanks also to the use of the short ball, a gesture that however attracted the anger of numerous fans of the American on social networks, who considered our Errani too ruthless and disrespectful towards Venus, in some cases barely able to move on the court.

"I forgot how much I hate Sara Errani's game,” reads in a Twitter comment. The Emilian tennis player will now face Su-wei Hsieh, with whom she has already played and won three times. The 2020 champion Sofia Kenin will instead meet Kaia Kanepi.
