Alexander Zverev wins the Olympic gold medal for men's tennis and definitively enters the history of his country. The German champion completes the work after having surprisingly won the semifinal against world number one Novak Djokovic and defeated the Russian Karen Khachanov in an hour and 21 minutes, beaten with the result of 6-3; 6-1.
Gold to Germany, silver to Russia and bronze to Spain with Novak Djokovic and Serbia who remain without medals. Sascha immediately starts strong who controls the service and almost always creates difficulties when the Russian is needed.
The third game of the first set is immediately important and Zverev makes the break at the first opportunity. The first set goes fast, the Russian tries to be more aggressive, cancels a set point in the ninth game but at the second opportunity Khachanov misses an easy volley and Zverev closes the first set on the result of 6-3.
The challenge now seems well addressed and everyone expects the victory of the German champion, already clearly favored before the match.
