Carlos Alcaraz like Roger Federer: his tweener thrills the Toronto crowd
by LORENZO CIOTTI
Carlos Alcaraz like Roger Federer! The Spaniard was the protagonist of a shot worthy of the Swiss Maestro, in the match he lost in three sets against Tommy Paul, at the ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto. In a prolonged moment of difficulty, in which he was practically unable to express a good level of tennis, Carlitos did the impossible and won a truly incredible rally.
It all happened during the quarterfinal of the Master 1000 in Toronto, with the Spaniard who was again forced to chase after losing the first set quite clearly 6-3. In the second set (at 2-3 40-0) a magic of the number one in the world inflamed the Canadian crowd present in the stands: the Spaniard got the point with a wonderful tweener down the line, which made him gain a lot of confidence in the following games.

Just in the next game the young 20-year-old found the strength and the right moment to place the decisive break in the second set. The two thus had to battle further to detach the pass of the semifinals.
In the end it was a solid Tommy Paul who took the match home, thanks to a well-played third set in which he was able to handle the pressure on serve.
At 3-2, the American tennis player was able to snatch the serve from his opponent, who did not confirm the performance of the second set, and then to defend the advantage until the end.
Here is the point scored by the Spaniard, which could definitely be the point of the whole tournament.
The Spaniard starts very badly like Thursday, suffering an opening break (even two double faults) and even finishing down 2-5.NO CAPTION NEEDED 🤯@carlosalcaraz IS ON FIRE 🔥#NBO23 pic.twitter.com/klH4CCzfXH — Tennis TV (@TennisTV) August 12, 2023
The number one struggles to find an acceptable version of his tennis, he manages to recover one of the two breaks but then gives up his serve again (6-3). In the next set, the key is all between the seventh and eighth game: Carlitos breaks the serve to zero and defends the advantage after canceling three chances of the counter-break in favor of the American (6-4).
The crowd is everything for Carlitos, who tries to get loaded and leave behind the rage of the first set. But it is Paul who plays a really good decisive third set. The American takes advantage of the only break opportunity granted by the young 20-year-old and with great solidity maintains the last batting rounds.
Waiting for him now is Jannik Sinner.
