Daniil Medvedev will play today the 3rd round of the US Open 2023, in a match in which he will face teh Argentinian Sebastian Baez. Meanwhile, in the previous round, the Russian tennis player beat his opponent, the Australian Christopher O'Connell, with a few too many problems.
There are two moments that amused and annoyed the New York crowd during the match, naturally with the world number 3 as the protagonist. The most incredible thing of the match happened after Daniil lost the third set in a tie-break. The Russian decided to ask for a medical timeout: upon arrival the doctor naturally asked him what the problem was and he replied that he would like to have what he had given to his rival some time before.
Daniil Medvedev asked to see the doctor after losing the 3rd set to O’Connell at US Open. Doctor: "Do you have any symptoms?" Medvedev answered: “Yeah. I lost the set… give me whatever you gave him." Here he post sharred by the @TheTennisLetter on X:

This time the 27-year-old had to laugh at two female fans, who were walking in the stands looking for their place while he was about to serve: "Are you stupid or what," he yelles began to rail against the two. One of the fans even blew him a kiss, before sitting back and allowing Medvedev to strike without distractions.
The firsts 3rd round matches
On the Louis Armstrong Stadium there was practically no match between Taylor Fritz and the very young Mensik. The American conceded a total of three games to his opponent, outscoring him 6-1, 6-2, 6-0.
The other Americans also made it through to the round of 16, but they all lost a set. Paul got rid of Davidovich-Fokina, while Ben Shelton adjusted Aslan Kasatsev. Frances Tiafoe risked and deluded a bit in the first set, only to recover quickly and beat Mannarino.
The Australian Hijikata and the Swiss Dominic Stricker continue their incredible run, forced again to 5 very hard sets against Bonzi. Novak Djokovic beat his coutryman Laslo Djere. Sensing the importance of the match, the number 32 seed on the draw didn't tremble and didn't let Nole scare him, on the contrary he began to express a spatial level of tennis.
Without fear, the 28-year-old annulled the three break points in total allowed and found the twist to break his rival's serve, obtaining the first set 6-4. In the second set, Djere's drop did not arrive as some might have imagined: Senta's player continued to always put the ball on the court, even when he was in difficulty and on the defensive, and was able to win almost all the long rallies .
The Serbian champion, a little surprised, was unable to react and found himself conceding even the second set for 6-4, this time without ever having a break opportunity. From the third set Laslo began to feel the pressure of being ahead 2-0, while still maintaining a good game performance on the court.
However, the number 2 in the world has grown from every point of view and has put his opponent in difficulty. The climb started off on the right foot with a clear 6-1, repeated in the following partial. With the match in balance, the 36-year-old from Belgrade was able to take the lead of the set immediately, getting the break in the opening.
Djokovic at that point defended himself well in his rounds of service, up to 5-3 in which he contained Djere's last comeback attempts (cancelled a ball of the counter-break), before closing the decisive set 6-3 around at 7:30 Italian time. In the round of 16 he will challenge Borna Gojo, who clearly defeated Vesely.
