Novak Djokovic, in his sixteenth appearance at the ATP Finals, defeated Holger Rune with a score of 7-6(4) 6(1)-7 6-3 and secured the points needed to close the season for the eighth time in career at the top of the rankings.

A record all his own which will also allow him to exceed 400 weeks as world number one. Statistics recorded by the Serbian, starting from Roland Garros, speak for themselves: 32 victories in the last 33 matches with the only defeat suffered in the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Another fact to report concerns the debuts which over the years saw him delight the Masters Tournament: the only one to beat him in the inaugural Round-Robin match in 2007 was David Ferrer.

Jannik Sinner beats Stefanos Tsitsipas

Jannik Sinner was the protagonist of a perfect debut, like the many Italian fans who flocked to the stands of the PalaAlpitour to support him.

There couldn't have been a better debut for him. The Italian tennis player took to the court very concentrated, with the right attitude right from the initial exchanges and deservedly achieved his first success at the 2023 edition of the Nitto ATP Finals.

Sinner knocked down the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (certainly not in top condition, given the physical discomfort felt during training in recent days - ed.), who was unable to withstand the intensity of his rival's blows. The Greek wasn't even helped by his serve to hang on to the match.

6-4, 6-4 the final score. The talented 22-year-old Italian can thus think about the next match, against Novak Djokovic, who, as we wrote above, knocked down Holger Rune. Whoever wins between the two will already have one foot in the semifinals.

Today there will be the matches of the other ATP Finals group: the young Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz will face the German Alexander Zverev, while the Russian Daniil Medevdev will meet his countryman Andrey Rublev. Below are the highlights shared by tennis TV on its YouTube page, with Djokovic and Sinner's victories:
