World no. 262 Mario Vilella Martinez is one of the numerous players ranked outside the top-200 who are chasing every possible Challenger win to keep the ranking position and get the opportunity to play in the qualifying draws at Majors.
Mario is yet to play on the ATP level, struggling to find his place in the latter stages of Challengers as well after only three semi-finals. Vilella Martinez played in Shymkent this week and had to level the event after the first round, losing to Tomislav Brkic 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 in two hours and four minutes, wasting a 5-3 advantage in the decider and allowing Brkic to rattle off four straight games and cross the finish line first.
Serving at 5-6, Vilella Martinez sprayed a forehand error at match point for the Bosnian to lose both the match and control, hammering his racquet into the court and throwing it in the end for one of the worst performances after a defeat in recent times that already became viral among tennis fans.
