Jack Draper, the 2001 British tennis player, wild card at the Miami Open 2021, collapsed on the hard on the Court 2 at the Miami event, in Florida, just as he delivered the first set to Mikhail Kukushkin, his opponent. The match ended at that moment, as the British tennis player preferred to retire, feeling visibly weakened and dizzy.
Draper had revealed some breathing problems in previous games, and had also asked for the intervention of the doctor who had measured his blood pressure to ascertain his condition. In the next few days, communications are expected on his state of health and on what happened during the match: perhaps prey to heat, humidity and pressure.
The Miami Open 2021, ATP and WTA combined event, will be remembered for the absence of many stars, including the Big Three Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic among the men, and Serena Williams among the women.
However, there will be young ATPs such as Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner and also many women's stars such as world no.1 Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and Iga Swiatek.
