On the hard-courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (Flushing Meadows, New York), the matches of the highly anticipated US Open 2021 are being played, the last Grand Slam of the season, during which there will be the absences of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams.
After two hours of battle, Swiss player Belinda Bencic defeated Polish Iga Swiate on the hard-courts of the Louis Armstrong Stadium with the final score of 7-6 (12) 6-3. The first set, really exciting, seemed to never end and ended only after a very long tie-break, and after Bencic had wasted many opportunities to be able to close the challenge earlier, however qualifying for the quarter-finals.
In the other matches, the very young Emma Raducanu (at her debut at Flushing Meadows) beat Shelby Rogers, Karolina Pliskova defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Maria Sakkari eliminated the former champion Bianca Andreescu.
Below the highlights of the match between Bencic and Swiatek.
