The curtain fell on the WTA Finals 2021. Garbine Muguruza won the 2021 edition of the event, by beating Anett Kontaveit in the final in straight sets with the final score of 6-3 7-5, winning her third title of the season and her tenth in career.
Thanks to this victory Garbine will close the season at the 3rd place of the WTA ranking, while Kontaveit, who was defeated twice times by the Spaniard in this event, will close the year at the 7th place. At the start of the match Kontaveit made a lot more mistakes, with 22 unforced for her at the end of the first set, and 7 winners.
Muguruza managed to squeeze in a streak of five consecutive games and finished the first set 6-3 in 43 minutes. In the second set it was Kontaveit who took the lead by a break at 4-3 and then served for the set at 5-4, but came back on 5-5.
The final draw was by the Spanish, who finished the challenge 7-4, winning her first title at the WTA Finals.
