Iga Swiatek beat Bianca Andreescu, reaching the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open 2023, in Indian Wells. Swiatek knocked out the Canadian player 6-3 7-6 (1). Bianca starts with a break, but Iga Swiatek returns her break in the next game, after an inside out backhand tracer.
Andreescu forces the world's number 1 to play with extreme solutions, to get out of the most difficult moments. The Polish champion, in the sixth game, finds the break that earns her the first set. In the second set, Iga starts with a break.
The Canadian accuses the blow, but tries to stick to the score with the help of the serve. After an empty pass, one step away from the third set, the Polish woman finds the strength to get another break and beat her opponent.
Now the Polish will face Emma Raducanu in the fourth round match. Here are the highlights:
The men's results
The Day-6 at the BNP Paribas Open 2023, in Indian Wells, holds no particular surprises. Jannik Sinner beat Adrian Mannarino, and in the fourth round the Italian will meet the Swiss Stan Wawrinka, protagonist of a great victory against the Danish Holger Rune.
Beautiful and sparkling match, where the number 7 struggled to be constant, also causing a shoulder problem in the second set, and paying for a handicap start, badly losing the first fraction due to 15 gratuitous errors.
Thus allowing the old Swiss lion to play, who remains attached to the game and never lets go, until the decisive break in the eleventh game of the third fraction. The Swiss will face Jannik again for the fifth time in his career: balance on 2-2, with the last match held just under a month ago in Rotterdam, dominated by the Italian Carlos Alcaraz's success against Tallon Griekspoor was less simple than expected.
First set in which the Dutchman remained well in the match, sticking to the match tooth and nail, however succumbing to the tie-break. In the second set, the number 1 seed immediately takes the break and is good at canceling the only two chances granted to his opponent.
For the Spaniard there is a challenge from the green line against Jack Draper, who got the better of Andy Murray in the British derby. Taylor Fritz, winner last year, continues his journey. Beaten without any worries the Argentine Sebastian Baez, who collects the pittance of three games, two of these when the American was to serve for the match.
Now there's Marton Fucsovics for him, who overtook the Slovenian Alex Molcan and arrives at the appointment with nothing to lose. Concluding the matches in the upper part of the draw, Felix Auger-Aliassime manages to get the better of the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, who sold his life dearly for what he was able.
It took the Canadian six match points to close the contest, also risking a comeback, given that the Argentine also had two balls for 5 all starting from 5-2 and reply. It will be a derby with the American Tommy Paul: he overtook the Polish Hubert Hurkacz in comeback.
