No problem for WTA number one Iga Swiatek in the second round of Wimbledon 2023. The Polish 4-time Grand Slam champion beat Sara Sorribes Tormo with a clear 6-0 6-2. Despite a rainy day and various problems, Iga's journey continues, having left the crumbs in the Spanish style.
The number one appeared in good condition and thus she intervened in the usual post-match press conference. She explained: "Once again I can say that I gave a pretty solid performance, I'm happy with the result and how I played the match.
It's never easy against Sara because she runs everywhere, she always somehow manages to continue the exchange and respond. Today I decided to be patient, I used my plan available and I think I played a really great match." Below the highlights shared by Wimbledon YouTube page:
The other matches
8 seed Maria Sakkari was eliminated. The Greek, in a crisis of results, seems to have lost confidence and the comeback completed against her by Marta Kostyuk only has one more alarm bell. Camila Giorgi, too foul to be true, had to say goodbye prematurely to the only Grand Slam in which she reached the quarterfinals.
The initial phase of the match lost with the score of 2-6, 4-6 against Varvara Gracheva, better than any technicality describes the bad day experienced by the Italian. Jasmine Paolini defeated by the two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
Only one break, signed by the Czech in the fifth game, decided the first set. In the second part of the match, the Italian raised the level further and obtained a set point at 5-4; canceled by Kvitova with an important ace.
The Czech was not saved in the tie-break and Paolini deservedly reached the third set. A double fault hit by Paolini on the break point offered to her rival at 1-2 changed the tone of the match again. Kvitova was no longer found unprepared and wrote the final word. Victory for Paula Badosa, who defeated the US Alison Riske 6-3 in two sets.
