2020 memories: Sofia Kenin won the Australian Open

In one of the most incredible, particular and dramatic seasons ever, the great tennis stars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams still managed to shine, for one reason or another. At the Australian Open Sofia Kenin was the 14th seeded.

After easily overcoming the Italian Martina Trevisan and the American Ann Li, Sofia struggled to overcome Zhang Shuai and subsequently eliminate her countrywoman Cori Gauff, who won against defending champion Naomi Osaka.

Kenin then got the quarter-finals, where he defeated Ons Jabeur. In the semifinal the American defeated the world number one Ashleigh Barty. Kenin therefore arrives for the first time in his career in a Grand Slam final, where he clashed against the Spanish Garbine Muguruza, beating her in a comeback 4-6 6-2 6-2 and winning the first Slam in his career.

Following this victory, she entered the top ten tennis players in the world for the first time, placing herself at number seven in the WTA Ranking.
