At the Volvo Car Open 2021, WTA event in Charleston, Lauren Davis defeated her countrywoman and former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, after a great come back, qualifying for the third round of the American tournament with the final score of 4-6 6-3 6 -4.
Ashleigh Barty, world no.1, defeated Japan's Misaki Doi in straight sets, losing just three games. In the same part of the draw, Cori Gauff defeated Samsonova in three sets for 4-6 6-1 6-4. Former US Open champion, defeated countrywoman Madison Keys in two sets, skipped events in Australia due to COVID-19 positivity.
