Thanks to her third consecutive comeback, Ashleigh Barty has won the eleventh trophy of her extraordinary career. After beating Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina in three sets, respectively in the quarter-finals and in the semifinals, the Australian champion also managed to hypnotize Aryna Sabalenka, who was also affected by a problem in her right leg, in the last act of the prestigious WTA Stuttgart 2021.
In the first set, Barty did not manage in the best way the power and explosiveness of her opponent. The Belarusian bravely canceled three break points, one in the opening game and two in the fifth, before breaking Barty's serve on a score of 4-3, thanks to the badly played drop shot by the world number one, and going to serve for the set.
In the game of truth, Sabalenka did not tremble and closed the set with a winning serve. The second set instead saw only one player on the pitch and lasted just 20 minutes. Barty limited the free games, varied her game perfectly and closed the second set 6-0 winning 25 of the 35 total points.
