Iga Swiatek reached the final of the Italian Open 2021, in Rome, thanks to the victory in straight sets against the young American Cori Gauff, obtained with the final score of 7-6 (3) 6-3. We have to recall that, according WTA, Swiatek against Gauff was the youngest WTA semifinal at this level event, Slams excluded, since the tournament level was introduced.
The previous youngest combined age was that between Anasta Pavlyuchenkova vand Ana Ivanovic, in 2009 at Indian Wells. After a balanced first set, the young Polish champion at the French Open 2020, has practically no chances to her young American rival, in the second set, also showing a solid and varied tennis.
Thanks to this victory, the teenager got her 4th WTA final, her 2nd in 2021, after her victory at the Adelaide International against Bwelinda Bencic, last January. In the Rome final she will meet Karolina Pliskova, at her di lei 3rd final ina row on the Italian Open clay-courts.
