Leander Paes

Leander Paes, born in 1973, won 18 Grand Slam doubles and mixed doubles titles. In 1996-1997 he received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India's highest sports honor and in 2001 the Radmashri, award for his contribution to Indian tennis.

At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he won the bronze medal in singles. In 1999 he managed to win the Wimbledon Championships in both doubles and mixed doubles.

In 2012, thanks to the victory in the Australian Open, he completed the Career Grand Slam in doubles. In 2015 he won the Australian Open, the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open in mixed doubles with Martina Hingis.

In 2016 he always won the Roland Garros with Hingis, completing the Career Grand Slam also in mixed doubles. He retired in 2021, having last played in March 2020.

He was educated at Martinère Calcutta. His father Vece was a hockey player for the Indian national team, which he represented at the 1972 Munich Olympics in the team that won the bronze medal; his mother Jennifer was captain of the Indian national basketball team in the 1980 Asian championship.
