Marcelo Rios

Marcelo Ríos is a former Chilean tennis player, already number one in the ATP ranking. He is known to have held this position for a total of six weeks without ever having won a Grand Slam title in his career. He was the first Latin American tennis player to reach the top of the ATP ranking in the open era, after having also dominated the analogous junior rankings. He retired at age 29 in 2004 due to a back injury.

Born on December 26, 1975 in Santiago, the son of a businessman and a teacher, he has an older sister named Paula.

In 2000 he married the Costa Rican Giuliana Sotela, whom he had met at the Nick Bollettieri academy. From the relationship between the two, a daughter was born in 2001, Constanza. The marriage ends in 2004.

He married for the second time in 2005 with the Chilean model María Eugenia Larraín, ex-girlfriend of Iván Zamorano. This marriage also did not last long, with public announcements of the separation. Rios called her second marriage the biggest mistake of his life.

In 2009 he married Paula Pavic, in 2008 the first daughter of the couple was born, Isidora, while in 2010 the second was born, Colomba.
