Horia Tecau

Horia Tecau is a tennis coach and former Romanian tennis player who achieved his greatest successes in doubles, a specialty in which he won 38 titles on the major circuit and was number 2 in the world in November 2015. He is currently the captain of the Romanian women's team in the Billie Jean King Cup.

In the three-year period 2010-2012 he reached the final of the Wimbledon Championships paired with Robert Lindstedt, being defeated by Jürgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner in three sets, then by Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan again in three sets and finally by Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen in the 5th set. He finally managed to conquer the tournament in 2015, paired with Jean-Julien Rojer, beating Jamie Murray and John Peers in the final. Together with Rojer he also won the 2015 ATP World Tour Finals and the 2017 US Open.

With his compatriot Florin Mergea he won the junior doubles tournament at Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003 and conquered the silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. In 2002 he reached the top in the world junior doubles ranking and in 2003 he made his debut in the Romanian Davis Cup team.

In 2021 he played with Kevin Krawietz and ended his career with participation in the ATP Finals. The German-Romanian duo failed to progress through the group but finished with a win against Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. At the time of his retirement he was still number 18 in the ranking and reigning champion of the Noventi Open in Halle.
