
Todd Martin, a former American tennis player, played the first ATP tournament he played in Newport, in 1990, while the first success came three years later at the Coral Springs tournament. In total Todd captured eight singles titles.
In 1994 Martin lost the Australian Open final to Pete Sampras, while in 1999 he was beaten by Andre Agassi in the US Open final. He also got two semifinals at Wimbledon.
He retired from playing on August 31, 2004, following a first-round loss to Fabrice Santoro at the US Open. In total Martin played 645 professional games with 411 wins.
In 2002, after Pete Sampras retired from competition, Martin was asked if he was sorry for the farewell of such a great champion. In response Todd jokingly declared: "Sorry? But what if that guy has been bullshitting me all these years!"
