Sania Mirza is considered the strongest Indian tennis player ever, in her career she won a singles WTA tournament, also reaching the 27th position in the ranking in August 2007.
An excellent doubles player, she was the first Indian tennis player to reach the No. 1 position in the world doubles rankings, a specialty in which she won a total of 40 WTA tournaments, among which the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open stand out paired with Martina Hingis, including the Year-end Masters in 2014 with Cara Black and in 2015 with Hingis. She has also won three Grand Slams in mixed doubles.
The daughter of sports journalist Imran Mirza, she grew up in Hyderabad, starting to play tennis at the age of six; she was followed by her father until she turned professional in 2003. she is Islamic, she has been married since 2010 to a Pakistani cricket player. In November 2018 she gave birth to a boy.
On February 21, 2023, she retired from professional tennis after defeating Madison Keys in the first round of doubles at the WTA 1000 in Dubai.
